Another day in today so another indoor shot ! This is the fireplace in our bedroom, I am pretty sure it is blocked off up the chimney as nothing falls down, eg birds, soot etc !
I always remember as a very small child once being so ill that I had the fire lit in my bedroom & Vick rubbed on my chest ...I can remember it to this day & the fire glowing in the dark !! Funny how certain things are etched in your memory !!!
Any way as you can see I keep my bottles of perfume & necklaces & general jewellery on the mantelpiece. I seem to have a lot of necklaces which is odd as I mostly only wear my pearls !
Oh Pat, what character this has. Too bad you can't have a fire in it. I'm laughing about the Vicks - my mom was a great user of it and it went on our chests everytime we had the smallest sniffle. Can't stand the smell of it to this day!
It's lovely - and did smile when you mentioned Vick on chest......me too, and used it as a mum too! There is something very comforting about smells like that......not easily captured in photos though!
@barbsmith@sarah19 Do you know I could sniff Vick like a glue sniffer, I just love the smell so much!! It was lovely to see little Max having the baby version rubbed on his chest when they were over from NZ in the Spring !! Thanks for your comments !!!
That's a lovely fireplace, it's a shame that it doesn't work! My Mum used to slather me in Vicks when I was a kid, and I've done that to my kids many times. Every time I open that pot of cream it takes me back....I love it! FYI, I know people who SWEAR that if you put Vicks on the soles of your feet, and put socks on, it will ease a bad cough!
@shutterbugger Really Jenn that's something I have never heard of but it wouldn't surprise me , I think it's rocket fuel !!! Funny how we all remember good old Vick in every country !!
Wonderful peek at your charming room and things, Pat. Love the marvelous old fireplace...such character it gives the space. I'm a Vicks fan, too. It's kind of like comfort food ~ it just makes you feel better when you're feeling punky. :)
great shot - an insight to you and your home Pat! One of my Dad's old houses had fireplaces in the bedroom and i remeber being really scared that the bogeymen would come and get me from them! Childhood memories are great fun to retell
Lovely old fireplace!! Like the contrast between newer jewelry and old ornate fireplace. Wonderful color! Vicks must have worked . . we've all survived!!
Oh I love Vicks - but I gave my daughter an enormous rash rubbing it on her chest!! Beautiful fireplace - did they use them just for hot embers originally? My mum would love your bead collection - she's a bead officianado!
@judithg And I hardly wear any of them !! Funnily enough after I wrote that I only wear my pearls , I put them on this morning & during the day they have come off somewhere ...might be down the bed I changed this morning !
