Stocking up. by happypat

Stocking up.

My three good things all in the photos today!

1. Harry has been for some wood for the wood burner & unloaded it into the out building...more to come yet to last us all winter.
2. I have painted the door you can see in the photo here, it was getting shabby with a bit of rust on the hinges so looks loads better now.
3. A sitting out day for humans & the cat....so warm in the sun.

I must say a big, big thank you to all of you who commented & faved my conker shot yesterday ...I am always amazed at the number of you who take the time to look & write underneath, thank you all so much.

You are also very good at coming back & answering my comments when usually the following day I have moved on to the next picture there you are all commenting on ones you have missed...I am very impressed with your diligence & I must do better at that.
So good to have your three good thingd in one shot today -- nothing like getting fuel ready for winter ! the door looks good and having sucha beautifully sunny day - I am sure it would suit us if this weather would go on for some time yet !!

Yes, hasn't it been lovely! Like the color of your fresh painted door!
September 24th, 2013
Great contrasts in textures and tones

I like the colour on the door - it looks like a Farrow and Ball sort of colour? Nice stock of wood too.

Seems funny stocking up for winter on a day that was more like late summer ....... fab shot :)
September 24th, 2013
Marvellous - you'll set @fueast off again though!
September 24th, 2013
@judithg Now you see I deliberately commented on on the other picture and you had to drag me in! Actually I already noted the smell of smog tonight and noted the wood burners were on... I'll let pat off as she lives in the country.

@fueast and I'm still not telling Nigel about Eco objections.
September 24th, 2013
@fueast All good sustainable wood here Alison & we have no gas here so what's a girl ....woman..to do! @judithg Yes I live in the country Judith !!!!!!!
September 24th, 2013
@judithg I'm sure I can find his Email address online...
September 24th, 2013
@happypat Oh I'm sure - but its the smoke that comes out of the top thats the problem. I'm trying to explain to Judith that if everyone in the city had one it would be like having a large truck idling in everyones back garden all winter! Nigel seems rather sensible though :-)
September 24th, 2013
@fueast oh don't start encouraging him. Pat'll be alright - the wind blows up there!
September 24th, 2013
That's one of the three things that make me feel secure - piles of wood stacked ready for winter, books from the library, and a spare bottle of wine in the fridge!

Jo
Sounds like a good day was had by all, and wasn't it lovely having some sunshine after the last fey dull, grey days.
September 24th, 2013
@maggiemae You are my sort of woman maggiemae the very three things most important although G&T not wine..although I have had a glass of wine tonight for a change..........depressed after watching the sailing....think things are looking bad now, they have the upper edge now. We are out tomorrow night but will record it...quite glad I won't be able to watch live!!
September 24th, 2013
@judithg @fueast You are both too young to remember the smog that used to descend on the UK every winter ...a killer, things are so much better now. The smog was caused by coal & coke fires in every house, the only way to heat them so a little wood smoke drifting around smelling beautiful is rather nice don't you think?
September 24th, 2013
@happypat Nope. It isnt that different from coal smoke and is toxic. Coal was once wood remember! I dread these things becoming ever more popular in cities. Those smogs will be back. To be discussed at the next defra meeting!

A reference for you. Blame @judithg for seeding my rant which for once i was trying to avoid! http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/17127644/
September 24th, 2013
@judithg this will make you laugh (maybe...) I already have a reputation for ruining bonfire night! http://www.rsc.org/Publishing/ChemScience/Volume/2008/08/Model_fireworks.asp
The quote wasn't mine btw, these journalists have a way of twisting things... Anyway, i won't mention it again pat I promise!
September 24th, 2013
a great shot to mark your hard work!
September 25th, 2013
Looks as if you'll be all set for winter Pat
September 25th, 2013
I love the aroma of wood burning
September 25th, 2013
@fueast I can quite see you know what you are talking about Alison....you are obviously very passionate about the environment & good on you, all power to your elbow but I will stick with my wood burner for now, after all wood is pretty much the oldest source for heat & cooking, as long as the trees are replaced that is OK by me!!
We could have some good debates on this project but I will temper my opinions, prudent I think you will agree!!!!
September 25th, 2013
Ah well, I love the smell and sight of wood burning. Don't have one myself but envy my friend who does when it's cold outside and so cosy in her house. Anyway, I love the colour you painted this door. And congrats on PP. that conker shot is wonderful.

Love your 3 good things with this shot. Really enjoying those commentaries. Far better to count your blessings than to dwell on the bad parts.
