I have been painting the bare plaster in the wet room where the laundry cupboard is going.
A large black bin bag just fitted on the floor to catch any drips.
Not a good job because bare plaster has to be primed with thinner mixture first so two coats needed.
Not easy balancing on a step ladder with a very large tub of emulsion on the top step.
The joiner has ordered the wood & will be coming to start very soon hopefully.
Three good things:
1. I have rung the stove man & he’s definitely coming end of next week beginning of the next. He has the chimney ready to fit.
2. I managed to squeeze into an old pair of jeans to paint in.
3. Chicken casserole for evening meal
Well I am used to doing decorating as we never had enough money to get the decorator in when we were farming plus my mum was a decorator so I learnt watching he, papering the lot, on old uneven walls too! I will say this though when I have finished with the last bit of painting of another coat of paint on two doors I’m never lifting a paint brush ever again… so very sorry I will have to turn all your jobs down. 🤣🤣
Looking good Pat. Don't do what I did on my last decorating job - I spilled a 10 litre pot of white paint all over the bedroom carpet, while transferring it to another part of the room! Actually, the precariously balanced radiator slid down the wall and crashed into me, causing the paint to spill!
We doing the bedroom at the minute. John did the hall before Xmas and fell of the stepladders.! Ankle and swollen leg for few weeks.all well overdue with his heart op,then the lockdowns. He is just taking his time. I'm emptying the room be to ready for the new carpet and wardrobes. Oh the stuff! As you know got plenty sheds Put it in!
@busylady Well I said to Harry today I will be ok as long as I don’t tip the paint container over & you did just that…..I can’t imagine the mess & stress…new carpet I guess so you might as well have paid for a professional decorator to come in. Hope that was the last of your labours….I would have bowed out gracefully! It would be like watching in slow motion as the paint spilt! 😱
@brennieb I think we have all got far too old for decorating but it’s us older generation that do it ourselves mostly. The younger ones just get someone in! 🤣🤣. I don’t envy you decorating, house will be all upside down! Good for John still up for doing it! Tell him to be careful up the ladder, perhaps you should stand at the bottom & hold it steady! 🤣🤣
I don't ever do painting walls and things! I would make such a terrible job at it nobody would ever ask me again! A good excuse. My arm would get tired too!
Plaster takes a good while to dry out before you can do anything with it, doesn't it? Memories of doing our bathroom in our previous house come flooding back! Cheering you on. I adore painting, I'd be round like a shot if I were nearer.
@casablanca Ooh & I would take you up on that Casa but thankfully there isn’t much to do. The whole house was spray painted by our painter but he became ill & couldn’t carry on so I’ve been finishing it off in dries & drabs. He left the plaster bare where the cupboard was going but now we aren’t having a back or sides as the walls are well insulated & it makes the cupboards & fitted wardrobes quite a good bit cheaper.

Great to get these final jobs done ...but then perhaps there's always a little more!
