We took a day trip to Cambridge this Bank Holiday Monday, and left behind the chores and overwhelming workloads which we are now supposedly addressing. It being exam time, there was little access to college grounds, but we could walk along the back of the River Cam and watch the punters go by.
My father went to Downing College, and my brother to Selwyn. I settled for day trips, and today, decided that next visit, I will take a look inside the infamous King's College chapel - may be even take in one of the full choir services.
King's was founded in 1441 by Henry VI, soon after he had founded its sister college in Eton. This view shows the back - the front being much more ornate.
Hope you can spot the punters in the foreground and the posers in the courtyard.
Big thank you to everyone who enthused over the Emperor and other posts previous to that. Every comment encourages me and I am up for being challenged too.
If this is the back, it's very impressive. And that's some pretty impressive grass cutting with those broad lines leading up to the building. Sounds like a good day out and it's important to take the opportunity of a break - does the soul good.
@marshwader you are right. I didn't think of cropping that far but the sky was so dull it was almost same colour as building so added nothing. Thanks for your observations.
Noticed a grammatical error, so reposting!! This is almost a pattern picture of, of course the famous King's College Cambridge. I think either you have to decide whether you want the roof or crop it off above the top windows (below the balustrade at the top of the building). At the moment it is neither one thing nor the other! I think it would be stronger cropped off with the different layers in the foreground; the manicured lawns and the punters. There is lots of interest in this picture. Well done
I think the gardeners have upset the symmetry for you by not lining up the grass cutting with the building. I'm glad you pointed out the punters in the foreground as they could be doing anything to the un initiated. The view through the arch is tantalising.
I like this very much--not sure whether I would crop it differently. The sound of the Choir here is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, especially at Christmas (of course I've heard it only in recordings).
