“We all experience it. Those moments when we gasp and say, 'Oh, look at that.' Maybe it’s nothing more than the way a shadow glides across a face, but in that split second, when you realize something truly remarkable is happening and disappearing right in front of you, if you can pass a camera before your eye, you’ll tear a piece of time out of the whole, and in a breath, rescue it and give it new meaning.” – Joel Meyerowitz, American photographer
We call a maple's winged seeds "helicopters" because of the way they twirl their way to the ground; and this helicopter, backlit by late afternoon sunshine, caught my eye as I turned the bend. Following a gasp, "Oh, look at that!" or at least something similar instantly flew out of my mouth; and I'm glad I tore this piece of time of out the whole.
Perfect lighting, and this quote is so appropriate. Funnily enough we were talking about helicopters keys on our walk this morning. Soon our driveway will be full of them.
I love how the light shines through the 'helicopter' illuminating the maple seed veins and highlighting its beauty. Such detail and elegance all rolled into one.
