Emerson wrote, “The earth laughs in flowers.” Well, if that’s the case, I imagine my daffodils cracking up over the trick they played on me. They must think they’re really funny blooming in all kinds of colors that I didn’t plant, but I’m not complaining. Honestly, I think they’re funny, too. When I saw big bunches of these white-but-should-be-yellow daffodils, my head shook back and forth as I smiled. How on earth?? The mystery confounded.
I made plenty of pretty pictures of this pondside daffy-down-dilly, but this one’s my favorite — yeah, this one showing the yellow trug filled with a soupy sludge dredged up from the bottom of the pond. As he does ever year, Mike performed some spring pond maintenance; and with waders on, he was in the water filling that trug while my tripod and I moved around the edges exploring spring blooms.
Before long, I joined in performing the spring chores; and having this remembrance of our wonderful April morning makes me happy. Readying our home and garden for the outdoor season fills us with joyful anticipation!
