I thought I'd figured it out. Black cherry seemed perfectly reasonable until I learned to look for hairs along the leaves' midribs. No hairs. I now suspect choke cherry, but time will tell. I'll be watching these trees for the fruit that will eventually replace the pretty flowers. I love learning about the plants that called this hill home long before we did. Some have puzzled me for years, and my curiosity only increases with time.
A break in the clouds allowed the sun's golden rays to reach me and my muse, and time can slip away fast under the spell of our enchanted forest.
