Sounds of gunshots competed with songs of chickadees, and who doesn't know which won that battle? I'd donned my Bogs for a walk on the trails; but even though I wore a bright blue jacket, the loud shots left me feeling uneasy. Had hunters taken to our trails without permission, or were they further away than I thought? When I spotted this beautiful maple leaf at the trailhead, my attention turned — only to be jolted back to the hunters with each BANG BANG BANG. I walked no further.
Back inside, I popped my memory card into the reader and soon found myself lost in the leaves as each image appeared on the screen. Admiring the colors and curly edges, I felt my shoulders relax. Time slipped by, and Gracie laid down in her bed on the floor beside my feet. The restoring power of nature — what a gift.
I'm going to wake up Gracie now, slip my Bogs back on and head out for another walk — away from the woods this time.
Quite pretty shot - but does sound like a better plan to walk in the other directions right now. Don't always trust the hunters when the see a glimpse of movement.
