Surprises

This afternoon, I approached this Japanese maple as I had hundreds of times before; but this time, a surprise awaited me. Flower buds! Why had I never seen them? Dangling from thin stems, the clusters danced as the branches swayed in the strong wind.

I praise you, Lord, for pleasant surprises in the garden.
