Not a very good shot but posted as a journal shot since we had a big trauma at the end of the hike yesterday. We were just getting back close to the parking lot and both girls were on their leashes after a wonderful play date when an off leash huge mean pit bull rushed the, his owner couldn’t control him and he bit both girls. He really attacked Abby who thankfully got off with lots of bruising and some puncture wounds. But both dogs and Abby’s mom and me were really traumatized. I was still shaking several hours later and Pearl had a bad dream. I asked him what he was doing having that aggressive a dog off leash at a public trail head on 4th of JUly for goodness sake. He said he hadn’t seen any cars at that end of the parking lot nor seen any dogs. We always park at the other end where the park hosts are to avoid car flouting and the trail curves through tall brush and grass and trees and of course he wouldn’t see any dogs! I don’t get it why someone would even have such a mean dog but to let him off leash when there were lots of people around and it is a well used trail? I don’t get it
Such a wonderful capture of the two of them having a tug of war. What a horrific experience you all had though! I hope they ( and you of course ) are back to normal and it does not happen again. I am not a friend of these mean dogs at all, it is instinct with them, regardless of good training.
It's a really fun photo Jane. I'm distressed to hear of the incident that occurred. Are the "girls: ok?? Puncture wounds can be bad news. I hope that you are all revering from such a savage fright. Please let us know how you all are faring. All my best, Les
This is a fun, happy shot! I'm so sorry about your experience. Some people just don't get it. I hope he thinks more about leashing his dog at all times after that experience.
A lovely capture of them both. Pleased they weren't too badly hurt by the Pit Bull. They can be very aggressive, though sometimes it's the fault of the owner. American Pit Bulls are banned in the UK. If anyone is caught with one, the dog will be destroyed and the owner fined or worse.
His answer was a non-answer. If he chooses to own an aggressive dog, it should NEVER be off-leash in a public space. I'm so glad the girls are physically okay and hope that traumatic memories subside soon. How awful!
I can't believe he was allowed to have that dog off leash - I'd have been terrified! Hopefully, the experience will fade for you and the girls and you'll just remember the fun time like this shot.
Great shot of the two. Don't understand why some people think the rules don't apply to them. Especially with a beast that is that aggressive, and he had to know that. Hope none of the wounds were too serious.
Lovely shot of the two gorgeous Labs. As for the Pit Bull, the owner should be prosecuted for sheer negligence. The import of American Pit Bulls has been banned for over 15 years and the remnant population and cross-breds are severely regulated, though sometimes maulings still occur unfortunately. Those dogs are immediately destroyed so can't repeat offend. What on earth was that brainless man doing with one of those aggressive things off-lead anywhere around where other dogs might, even maybe be present. He should be prosecuted on a number of grounds and banned from owning dogs!!! Most importantly, how are you two humans, and how are the two dogs faring after such a traumatic incident.
How awful for the two girls and for both of you. It's very lucky that both of your girls have a bit of size to them - if they had been small they probably would not have survived. As Marnie mentioned PitBulls have been banned here for some while - they had caused several human deaths. How unfortunate that this will be in back of your minds whenever you walk the girls again.
Oh that is so horrible for you. I had a dog once bitten by a pitbull, it is so scary and traumatic. It required a rushed trip to an after hours vet, and me acting as a vet nurse for the surgery to patch him up!
Just catching up with the frightening events with the pit bull. Dogs like this should be banned although it is often the owner who should also be banned as they are the ones who encourage the attacks. I hope the girls are both ok. I can understand that you and your friend would be traumatised by the whole episode. Report the man to the authorities.
Oh no, what a horrible thing to happen . I'm so glad that your Abby and Pearl are not too badly injured. It must be do frightening for yourself and the dogs . Hope they and you ,soon recover from this horrible experience .
Hope all are now recovered (two legs and four) and tht you continue to enjoy hikes together.
Two beautiful dogs. Lovely shot of their playfulnes and bond.
