I love a nice witch hazel and this one in Cambridge University Botanic Gardens was displayed in front of some golden bamboo in the winter garden section. According to Wikipedia it’s also known as winterbloom though I prefer witch hazel with its nod to medicinal chemistry. As a child of the 60’s and 70’s the smell of witch hazel is knitted into my neurons and will be forever associated with grazed knees, rashes or any miscellaneous minor skin problem.
Weather: a wet and wild night followed by blustery sunshine. Looking dodgy again now.
Covid: thankfully a sensible administration to tackle it in the USA.
Good thing: such a loud crash of rain against the window at midnight that we got out of bed, looked outside and realised we hadn’t put the bins out. Pronouncement from me that they’re a man’s job (not always but definitely in a storm at midnight).
Well hope you didn’t do it there & then in your pjs! Lovely curly fronds, it’s very pretty & I love the rich colour! An interesting plant with great medicinal properties!
I've never grown Witch Hazel but sounds like a useful tree to have around. Definitely a man's job at midnight. (I agree the road in front of the house in Hail Weston looks like the river, but it's actually about a mile away from the high point at the ford. I've updated the text)
Fabulous shot. I love witch hazel...both in plant and product form. It's a wonderful skin toner.
The sense of relief I feel about pandemic management under a new administration is palpable.
@peggysirk you and Anthony Fauci! Luckily Biden’s team have clearly been doing the work ahead of time so they are ready to go. Finally they may also harness the considerable might of the military infectious disease experts you have available.
we have some yellow witch hazel in the duck park...I didn't know what it was until I saw this...I might do a shot of it ... this is a lovely composition
