Day of reflection by judithg

Day of reflection

It’s one year on since Boris told us all to go home and stay home and in the UK we are remembering our 126,000+ direct Covid victims & an unknown number of indirect. Nigel’s karate Association lost one of its Masters very early in wave 1 to Covid and I can’t help but think that Adam’s sports teacher taking his own life last month is also a victim of the pandemic. Of course not everybody could go home & stay there and the NHS staff who have treated half a million in-patients are exhausted, the teachers organising in school/at home learning are exhausted. Home schooling working parents are exhausted. Let’s hope and pray that the number stay down and allow this spring to be a time of recovery and rejuvenation.

Weather: beautiful spring day
Covid: 1 year on and we’ve learned an incredible amount.
Good things: community spirit
Who knew this year would be such a dramatic departure from our comfort zone in so many ways. I just lost my neighbor and good friend to complications from COVID last week. She was only 58. It is so sad that we all have a story.

Great to dedicate a day for it. Like a day to remember the victims of the war. It's so strange to realise we are a whole year in this... I pray for a safe way out of it and for all the victims.

Well said. A day to remember and also to begin to look forward.

Wise & thoughtful words Judith! I think we are all thinking a year ago today...We are bound to look back & think of all the sadness & worry affecting the world. Hopefully we are over the worst & can look forward to a safer Spring & Summer.
I went out with my candle at 8pm but no one else near us so I have no idea how well it was supported! Sadly my candle blew out after about one minute!

@happypat just me and one set of neighbours - better retrieve my candle!

Hear hear. @happypat somehow we missed the fact that there was going to be a vigil. I suppose I just never listen to the news, I just scan my digital Independent and even then tend to avoid reading too much coronavirus news.

@boxplayer I got alerted in Tesco when they did the minus’s silence! Plus I’m an avid radio listener.

Beautiful image and very well said. We need to look forward to better things, happier news and of course never forget those whose lives have been rocked by this terrible virus.
March 23rd, 2021
@bkp so sorry to hear that.

It has been a difficult year judith , Boris waffling, struggling and being evasive at today's press conference doesn't inspire us. The NHS, Scientists, Key Workers etc. inspire us . Anyway stay safe

Year of exhaustion and loss. Perfect photo to recognize it

Such a poignant and reflective post. The world deserves the grace of recovery and rejuvenation. Well said, Judith.

A beautiful image and post. I’m so sorry for you and for everyone for what we’ve been through this past year. Beautiful images like yours are a balm.

What a year it's been. A year we certainly will not forget. Beautiful portrayal.
March 24th, 2021
Oh, absolutely. Your photo brings us hope and light. It's beautiful, as is your narrative.

Beautiful shot!

Lovely pop of red.. and yes, I hope so too. Average of 5 thousand new cases a day, I think if they open pubs etc with these sorts of numbers then it's all going to go wrong again :-(
March 24th, 2021
@blightygal I just wish I knew how they account for false positives but there are definitely ‘proper cases’ about- we delivered to one today.
March 24th, 2021
@judithg I don't think false positives are an issue, false negative perhaps.. to err on the side of caution and all that. I just don't want the UK to make the same mistakes as last year and people mix too soon & possibly have more variants that render the vaccine useless. I'd rather wait another month or two before go to a pub/shopping and make this the last lockdown.
March 24th, 2021
@blightygal I’m only thinking that because we’ve increased to over a million tests a day and the lateral flows are a bit dodgy. They were saying they balanced out but I’m not sure we can get to zero (even if we COULD get to zero) which we can’t.
