We are having regular visits from this chap - I presume nesting somewhere nearby. He moved onto the jar of suet that the robin favours but was foxed briefly and tapped the plastic end. It’s a little compensation for the fact that the blue tits seem to have decided against our nest box after all - at least for the time being.
Weather: beautiful spring day
Covid: cases dropping v low (probably because there are fewer ‘school related lateral flow tests’ being taken but also hopefully less school related transmission).
Good thing: two lots of very pleasant garden socialising with the additional knowledge that we’re all vaccinated (some of us twice). Rachel has found some lovely Easter chocolate in Canada - I did try remote buying but she had to go and pick up regardless and as she is lactose free it was just too complicated. Anyway she did well with a local chocolatier so a local business supported.
I love a woodpecker in the garden...always exciting to see one on the bird feeders! We haven’t seen one at our new place yet!
Chocolate eggs have been in short supply this year. No chocolate egg has passed my lips today simply as we haven't got any!
@happypat there was a family in a complete state in Waitrose as no eggs left. I got some mail order from Hotel Chocolat which, as Adam pointed out, will be half price next week when he can actually eat them!
Lovely capture of this striking bird. We have a box for blue tits too, with video in it (Xmas gift from kids), but no signs of any interest this Spring. :-(
@bkp it’s a feeder where you screw in a jar of peanut/suet stuff and replace with a new jar when it’s finished (which will be much faster now Woody has found it).
@bkp half a coconut filled with some sort of peanut butter/suet concoction. I’ve just realised it’s fallen off - that will be the enormous magpie that manoeuvred itself on!

@happypat you have done well, unfortunately I have eaten both yours and my share
