Covid safe ventilation

I walked into town to take my friend Linda for a birthday tea and cake on King Street. Christ’s College has a huge building project underway. It’s one of those situations where they knock down a building that has been there for your entire lifetime in the city and you immediately have no idea what it was like. This shop frontage is being retained which I’m sure is costing the college a fortune.

Weather: not too bad in the sunshine
Covid: lots of outdoor socialising- warm clothes required
Good thing: I met a man with two ferrets down his shirt.
Two ferrets, now there’s a thing....is he mad? 😳. What a treat tea & cake! The college is going all out to preserve the front yet you can’t remember what it looked like...misplaced detail perhaps....you can’t fault the ethic in trying to preserve the city structure though. Perhaps you are awash with historic beautiful buildings Judith...a lovely city centre.

@happypat I can remember this one - it’s the neighbours I’ve forgotten! Ferret man was very pleased with himself!

The pedestrians add nicely and I love your title

It's great they are going to retain the old frontage.

This is happening a lot and you sort of think initially oh that's nice to keep the frontage. But the gentle author, of Spitalfields Life blog has another view on it - he calls it ghastly facadism, a sop to those complaining about old buildings being pulled down for the latest developments https://spitalfieldslife.com/2016/02/02/the-creeping-plague-of-ghastly-facadism/

Nice image of the ongoing work. Glad they're keeping the facade, it looks lovely.

I love the old facades, but what an architectural nightmare it must be to work around it.

@boxplayer to be honest I’m not sure the architecture really merits this but there are huge inconsistencies in the planning as far as I can tell.
