Another shot grabbed before the Advent Service today. We had good-natured instructions about quiet page-turning and coughing from the BBC man beforehand and I think we behaved pretty well. The music was incredible though they threw in an unsingable Wesleyan hymn at the end - I kept finding myself singing with the rather accomplished tenor behind me rather than managing anything feminine!
Nice capture of beautiful stonework. Brings back childood memories of being sent to Christmas carol services at my mums methodist church. Same lyrics, different weird tunes. Never did get that.
great shot of the carving, lovely! I'm sure you don't want to know this, but the Wesleys went Methodist when they moved to the States and were taking Christianity to the newly settled areas and the bishop wouldn't make these Anglican priests bishops so they could ordain their own priests, so they made their own church, pretty reluctantly
@shanne I think, rightly, that the college tries to make its services ecumenical with regard to music and it was very varied and beautiful, especially the German Carols. I'd just like them to chose hymns I can sing!
@lindilou that one I know because I write the weekly prayers for the church and the Wesleys are celebrated in the CofE, so I have read up on them at least twice.
@shanne Thanks for replying....I love this project ....There isn't a day when I don't learn something about photography and 'life'...very educational...Thanks for sharing!!
