Underexposed photo for my cold question! by judithg

Underexposed photo for my cold question!

No need to comment - just so I can show the experts this morning's problem! Of course if you know why it's dark feel free to comment!
OK I'm not an expert - but is it underexposed? The sky is quite light and the colours are pretty clear.

@fueast It just all seems very dull and it was a lovely bright morning... I was disappointed there wasn't more Lycra action...

Beautiful shot and beautiful reflections. I love the pop of red, too.

if it is underexposed, it is barely at that- the sky and water look pretty true to color:) gorgeous!

@4stories It's not normal for my camera though - maybe I've just pressed a button somewhere!

@judithg - just to see I downloaded it and pushed it through photomatix - its a small file so not the best result but just to show you I will upload it to my extras then when you've had a look I will delete.

@fueast That will be exciting - then I may have to fork out for Photomatix!

I love the olors and reflections. Do you want to readjust your exposure compensation so it looks the way you want it? I have a Nikon so couldn't tell you how to do it on yours

I just saw what Alison did with it. I vote for this darker one. The other one's sky looks almost blown out

@jgpittenger Oh I didn't know you could do that - will have to get the book out!
January 17th, 2012
The reflections are still really clear and the colours are strong too.
January 17th, 2012
Is it a question of our eyes overcompensating?
January 17th, 2012
Well I think it's a great photo - love the reflections. I'm not an expert, but I think that the exposure on the photo is about right. If you increase the brightness the white parts will become saturated and you will lose detail. I use Photoshop Elements and there's a couple of easy adjustments I find useful sometimes. One lightens dark areas and the other darkens light areas. I used the latter on my Lode Mill photo to get some more detail into the white wood of the mill itself.

@daffodill @north_ender I'm beginning to wonder if I've been over-exposing everything up until now!!
January 17th, 2012
Of course I am no expert and certainly not technical, but I love this soft and serene photo and I think the reflections are beautiful! Sorry you are disappointed - maybe it is best to be clueless like me. I think your photo is picture perfect!

Love those vivid colours & reflection & don't forget it is middle of January & quite early in the morning too !! I know ..pretend it's my photo , i will gladly claim it !! LOL !

IMHO, I think it's a wonderful pic! So crisp, so clear. I'm not sure why you find fault with it. :)

January 18th, 2012
Great reflections and great colours too.
January 18th, 2012
I like it too, great colours and reflections
January 18th, 2012
I like it just as it is. The colors are spot on for winter and the reflection is perfect!
January 20th, 2012
Well, I like the intensity of colour in this. Doesn't seem underexposed, though it is curious that the water reflections are so much darker than the sky.
