I'm obviously not posting this because it's pretty but because I encounter this little scene probably three times a year - just by chance which shows how many boats they bring through the town. This lorry with its police escort is busy heading the wrong way through our complicated 'Mitcham's Corner' one way system. I saw the lead motorbike and guessed what was coming so got myself ready with the camera. The boats come from Fairline boat builders in Oundle. Oundle is an extremely pretty village in Northamptonshire, famous for it's public school (as in expensive private boarding school) and it is about as land-locked as it's possible to get in the UK. The boats come via us to the coast at Ipswich I believe. The luxury boat market seems to be recession proof - these little ladies are about £2 million (and are huge close up) so I'm guessing the cost of the police escort is trivial. It's nice to know that we still build and export SOMETHING in this country though one of the other boat builders has just been bought by the Dutch.
The procession would have been well worked out! We see some houses bigger than this go down the road! Everybody has to pull off the road to let them go through. Good photo!
Nice to know I am not the only woman intrigued by large trucks (and construction machinery!?!) Great info about boat building and transport. And BTW, this is a lovely shot of my dinghy.
Ps filthy rich people are recession proof!
