If you would ride 10,000 miles...

As many of you know I do like a bike shot so of course this rickshaw caught my eye - mostly because it looked quite authentic but I wish I'd stopped and looked at it properly because when I uploaded it I realised that it has an interesting banner around the top. It turns out that it's owner, Chen Guanming, rode it across 16 countries to carry the spirit of the Beijing Olympics to London. He must have decided to hang around for a bit and was parked up outside a rather good Chinese restaurant.

I saw this shortly before I passed you walking with Monty.

@judithg crikey he's not young either is he?
August 12th, 2013
@fueast No - he's certainly tough - I love the comment from the chap who helped him 'because it's a lot less boring than being a insurance broker'.

That is some machine & good for him riding all those miles....more than the Proclaimers 500 miles which is now going through my head!!
August 12th, 2013
Ps any good books you can recommend for my holiday? What's the best you've read this year?
August 12th, 2013
@fueast I'd like to know too
August 12th, 2013
@fueast Ooh that's a good question - I enjoyed 'Freedom' by Jonathan Franzen (a bit of an Eco warrior subtext so you might find it too close to home but very good), 'This Boy' by Alan Johnson and 'Where d'you go Bernadette?' by Maria Semple is a fun swipe at Microsoft. Or if you want a murder mystery get back to me!!

@fueast Also Rachel is enjoying 'Hellhound on His Trail' by Hampton Sides about Martin Luther King's assassination.
August 12th, 2013
Fascinating!!! I can't even imagine doing that!!!
August 12th, 2013
@judithg thanks ill take a look. They all seem quite political!
August 12th, 2013
Ok I'm going with Rachel's. never read on my ipad before so I hope it works out!
August 12th, 2013
@fueast No politics in Alan Johnson's!! The other two are novels - Bernadette's pretty funny...

Great shot of this unusual pedicab. I spent a good deal of time being pedaled around in those when I stayed in china for my student teaching.

Love this!! Fabulous shot and wonderful story. After putting in that kind of mileage, Mr. Chen deserves a long layover. Superb find, Judith!
