Popping Corn by kannafoot

Popping Corn

This is Renee, one of the young volunteers at the Smith-Appleby House in Smithfield. She's dressed in 17th Century period clothing and is popping corn over an open wood flame. She's also making a fish stew in the pot on the left, and is heating cider in the pot on the right. The Smith-Appleby House is a late 17th century stone-ender and was one of the first houses in what is now Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Post processing proved to be a bit of a challenge because I didn't notice a couple of non-period items in the scene when I took the shot. There was a stack of modern coffee mugs and some modern paper cups for the cider, and I spent the better part of an hour editing those items out of the scene. All I did to the image itself was run it through a deepen highlights filter in Topaz Adjust and then pull the levels out just a bit. Other than that, the photo is as shot. Thanks to Renee for graciously agreeing to be photographed in this sequence.
great capture... I understand the frustration of modern items mixing with the beauty of old.. nice processing
