A Century of Rail

This small historical marker, hidden amongst the overgrowth in the all-but-forgotten village of Greene, commemorates over a century of rail service that connected this tiny community with Fishkill, New York. The tracks were laid in 1854 and over the next 34 years were extended further and further west. In 1898 they we purchased by the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad, once the premier passenger rail services in the Northeastern US. The service through Rhode Island was abandoned in 1968, however, and the tracks were removed. This marker was erected in 1980 in commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the start of rail service.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
