Mind the Gap

Today was a full day of meetings, so I wasn't able to get out at lunchtime for my photo. With light fading fast, I stopped at a small park along the Seekonk River on my way home for this shot. There's an active mariner here, but as you can see, some of the docks are in less than ideal condition. This spot is one of my "fail-safe" photo spots, though, since there is so much interesting detail in one location. I'll return here many times over the course of the year.

Post processing was extremely simple. I used an HDR filter in Topaz Adjust to really dramatize the detail. In Photoshop I used a poster edges filter to produce the painted effect, and then made a slight levels adjustment and increased the saturation a tad. No photo filters were used this time, and I opted not to add a background texture. The image didn't need on since there was already a pretty dramatic texture to the image itself.
This is so dramatic, I love the cracked boards, the title is brilliant :D

@tabithasyear Thanks, Tabitha! In retrospect, I think I went a bit overboard (no pun intended) with the HDR filter, but the gaps in the boards really do make a statement.

@kannafoot The HDR works really well, makes the cracks and gaps stand out :)

@tabithasyear Thanks, Tabitha. It's interesting in that the photo looks a lot better to me in Facebook or on my Smugmug site. The small size here seems to exaggerate the grittiness (for lack of a better word.) Really glad you like the shot!
