Shady Bend

There is a small section of Rehoboth that is known as Rehoboth Village. The area was built around a grist mill in the late 17th century, and gradually grew to a fairly prosperous craftsman community by the time of the American Revolution. By 1820, when this house was built, the area became the hub of the town of Rehoboth. This section never truly recovered from a devastating flood when the dam on Bad Luck Pond broke 1859, though.

I went through several different post processing options before settling on this one. I like the late dusk effect and the overall tones of the monochrome image, although getting to this point was anything but straightforward. I started in Topaz Adjust with a "spicify filter". That really brightened the colors and setup a wide spread of tones. I sharpened it a bit using a high pass filter with a soft light blend mode. From there, I applied a copper gradient, and used a hue adjustment to send the monochrome closer to the yellow-orange range. A series of levels, saturation, and hue adjustment layers were added to bring out the wide contrast range I was looking for. Finally, a magenta photo filter and a cooling filter were added in strategic spots to produce the dusk effect. A levels adjustment tied to the cooling filter was used to enhance that effect.
