Tunnel Vision

I spotted this tunnel on the East Bay Bike Path yesterday on my way to Colt State Park. After taking today's shot, though, I was disappointed in the clutter around the subject, and also with how drab everything looked with a grey sky and the dead leaves on the ground. There was no color, no pop, no zing to the photo. In other words, it made a great black and white subject! Somehow, the black and white feel seemed to fit well with the puddles left over from last night's rain, and the lone biker bundled up for a cold ride added to the effect. (Personally, I think he was overdressed. It was 60 degrees today!)

Post processing was for a simple black and white shot. I sharpened the image a bit using a high pass filter with a soft light blend. A black and white gradient map was used to convert the image, and I made a slight levels adjustment. Deciding to stay traditional, today, I simply added a sepia photo filter as the last step. The image itself was heavily cropped to remove most of the distracting clutter from around the tunnel.
I saw you taking this picture! I was walking on the bike path and passed by you walking to take this shot. I was wondering if it was a fellow 365'er, but not wanting to sound like a nut, I just smiled and said hello.
