This is a single-cell jail built in Foster Center around the turn of the last century. A Historical Society photo of the jail dates to 1904, so it was built before then, but the exact date is unknown. The town of Foster dates to 1662, although its distance from the major cities of Providence, Hartford, and Boston conspired to keep its population and significance to a minimum. Even today, the town's population is only 4600 and it still has a rural agricultural feel to it. As to this one-cell jail, in its entire history it only housed one prisoner, and only for one night! Times have certainly changed since our justice system can no longer afford to build disposable jail cells.
Post processing was typical of my black and white conversion technique. I started with a highlight recovery filter in Topaz Adjust. The black and white conversion was done using a gradient map in color blend mode. I adjusted the hue a bit for better contrast, and then added a levels adjustment. The top layer is a Sepia photo filter.
