Green Heron

I had several meetings that ran well past noon today, so I went to a "safety shot" spot at Bold Point in East Providence. Just as I arrived and started looking for something interesting to shoot, this green heron flew out of the reeds along shore and landed on this piling. He stayed there long enough for me to switch to my 2x teleconverter and 200mm lens (for a 400mm combination.) It's hand-held, so the image isn't as crisp as I'd like, but I liked the pose of the heron and the combination of pilings in the overall shot. He eventually hopped down to that middle piling, but that composition just didn't appeal to me.

Post processing was relatively simple since the color and lighting was good straight from the camera. I ran it through a detail light filter in Topaz Adjust, more for the sharpening than anything else. I then adjusted the levels a bit to compensate for the luminosity changes that filter causes. I didn't add any color adjustments so as not to distort the color of the heron.
