An alternative caption for today's photo could be "Stubbornness." Today I decided to kill two birds with one stone and took my camera with me on my normal 2 1/2 mile walk. There were a number of interesting shots since we got about 4 inches of new snow overnight, and a lot of folks were out clearing their driveways. Now, my dad will be 81 years old in 2-months, so I do everything possible to keep him from trying to shovel. He has, however, achieved a level of stubbornness that only 81-years of practice can develop. Despite assurances that he'd leave the driveway to me, I returned from my walk to find him with a 30-year old hand-held snow blower putting the finishing touches on my driveway. Fortunately, one of my neighbors spotted him shoveling and came over to lend a hand.
Post processing today started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I made slight adjustments to the color sensitivity sliders and then adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter were added in PSE.
I like the movement of the bodies in this picture, as if they were in an intricate dance. Did you then put your camera down and wrest the shovel from Dad?
@medusa@shelldunn This is the photo I was going to use today, at least until I spotted my dad shoveling. A couple of days ago, "someone" challenged me to take a power tool photo. Since I value all my fingers and toes, I thought this would be a fun way to comply. Unfortunately, I had to pass it up to go with the shoveling photo. (I suspect this one would have been judged cheating, anyway. LOL) http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Miscellaneous/Assorted-Photos/i-L69hGSc/0/XL/2013%2002%2017_0026%20copy-XL.jpg
@kannafoot After your nicecomment earlier I will let you have the snow pool as a power tool, maybe I should have been more specific and said hand held power tools
@shelldunn LOL I knew you meant hand-held power tools. What I actually had in mind, though, was quite devious and would have fallen in the "horror film" category. I'll save the idea for a day I can't get out of the house, so you may see it yet.
Love to see people active into their 80's... my 83 year old father-in-law push mows his yard, walks 3 miles a day, and can babysit great grandchildren (2 year olds) all day long! He is amazing! You will treasure this photo! Thanks for sharing!
