I've featured these grain silos several times, but I still seem to be periodically drawn to them. I had several concepts in mind when I stopped there today but it was the wire fence that caught hold of my imagination and refused to let go. I shot this from several angles before settling on this one. One of the angles I tried was lying flat on the ground, but there was too much of a focus on the foreground snow from that perspective. The good news, though, is that there are still plenty of good Samaritans left in Lincoln. Three different cars stopped to see if I was okay, lying on the ground photographing the silos. LOL
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. I adjusted contrast and levels before adding a sepia photo filter in PSE.
Keeping people in, or keeping people out? I like the way the wire fence goes out of the picture on all four sides. They almost chop the picture in half horizontally, but instead get lost in the background. It's a picture that puzzles.
I like the idea that people would stop to check you are ok. I decided to get a shot of monty running towards me out on our walk the other day. So I made sure no one else was around and laid down on the floor in the muddy grass. Have to say it was not just mud and grass I could smell and the shot didn't work either. We are off as a family for an photoshot today in a studio. Should I take my new camera Len (nex3)?
