Bars, Graffiti, and Blinding Color

I pass this store front to and from work every morning. I'm not even sure the store is open any longer. The garish color of the storefront is interesting enough. The bars on the window tell you a bit about the neighborhood, and the graffiti completes the picture. The transition between wood, brick, and bars shows you the evolution of the store's security and also tells the story of the degradation of the neighborhood over time. When I was a kid, that barred window was a large plate glass opening that filled most of the front. The size of the window was reduced a couple of times, and then the bars were added about a decade ago. It all followed the increase in crime in the Chad Brown section of Providence.

Post processing started with a brilliant cold filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, details, protect highlights, and adaptive saturation. I adjusted color curves to darken the tones a bit, and then applied a levels adjustment in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-7VkZj4Z/0/XL/2013%2003%2005_0012%20copy-XL.jpg
Very interesting. Colors and graffiti make an interesting photo.

Someone behind the bard says hello. It's a pleasing picture in an abstract sense, with the colours, shapes and textures. Blue and yellow are almost complementary colours, so add a bit of ooomph to the picture. It's pleasing to look at.
