This is what procrastination gets you. I planned to go for a photo after work today, but I neglected to check the weather map when that decision was reached. The rain hit mid-afternoon and it's been pretty hard. Not wanting to get soaked, I opted instead for a photo of a section of my wine cellar. You may notice that my taste tends to run towards the reds. I *might* have a white somewhere in the collection, but I doubt it.
I played around a bit with the lighting for this shot. I used a single 40-watt Phillips natural light incandescent bulb, reflecting it with a white cardboard from the left side of the image. The light reflected on the right of the bottles was from that same bulb but randomly reflected off background objects. The short depth of field was also selected to hold the attention on the center bottles. I wasn't sure how it would work as a b&w, but it turns out there was enough contrast with the wood to make it work.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders followed by adaptive exposure, regions, boost black, boost white, contrast, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter were added in PSE.
