A Day at the Park by kannafoot

A Day at the Park

I went to Goddard Park in Warwick today for an antique car show. It's one of the largest in the area and provided some great photo opportunities. The challenge I've set for myself in attending these various shows, fairs, and festivals, though, is to be sure to capture the human aspect of the event. In a car show, for instance, it's easy to get caught up in taking many sterile photos of the vehicles, completely ignoring the people around them. I'm trying to avoid that trap. The photo I opted to post today is at the entrance to the show. When I saw this antique on the left - I'm not a car buff, so I've no clue what vintage or make this is - passing people walking through the park, I knew I had my shot. Only the modern shorts on the two guys betray the fact that this was not taken half a century ago. A very wide aperture helped prevent other modern intrusions in the background.

Post processing started with a warm tone III filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and boost white. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-Xr3MPwL/0/XL/2013%2007%2027_0122%202%20copy-XL.jpg
Looks like a nice spot

"In a car show, for instance, it's easy to get caught up in taking many sterile photos of the vehicles, completely ignoring the people around them" That's so true: it happened to me a couple weeks ago. At least I ended with a pic ( http://365project.org/rafesmar/365/2013-07-14) I like.

Great shot, and yeah: a pity about those shorts :(
