While out for some street photography at lunch today, I spotted this gentleman reading a historical marker in the Roger Williams National Memorial. The spot where he's standing is where the original water source for the fledgeling settlement bubbled out of the hillside. The landscape has changed significantly since 1636. A river that is now only 10 feet wide once spanned much of this park. There was a dirt indian trail just in front of where this tourist is standing, and a spring poured out of the hillside. The original homes started about 50 feet in front of him, but the road that serviced them was at the top of the steep hill on what is now Benefit Street. It was called High Street in the 17th Century, though, and was barely wide enough for a single cart. The area is a far cry from the dense wilderness that Roger Williams purchased from the Narragansett Indians to form the settlement he named after Divine Providence.

Post processing started with a brilliant cold filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, adaptive saturation, and color regions. A levels adjustment was applied in PSE. I followed that with a cooling filter on the sky, and a warming filter on everything else.
