Rhode Island has lost its third iconic restaurant this summer with the sudden closing of J&D Family Restaurants in Johnston. Following quickly on the heels of Julio's Pizza and Oki's Japanese Steakhouse, the closure came as a shock to regulars that showed up today for breakfast and lunch. The look of dejection on this gentleman as he walks past the now deserted restaurant says it all. J&D's opened 45-years ago and experienced long dinner-time lines for seating right up to its abrupt closure this week. Nothing on either its signage or its Facebook page hinted at the imminent demise of the business. Whether the closure of these three restaurants is indicative of the state's crumbling economy or it's indicative of the next generation's desire to maintain the family business is unclear. All three were family run operations that failed when the torch was passed to the next generation.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter were added in PSE.
