I went out for a bit of street photography at lunch today, and instead of doing my usual loop downcity I decided to walk up to Waterplace Park. I took several photos along the way, but I was really drawn to the scene of this gentleman sitting on the waterfront watching the gulls play along the railing. They were immune to his presence (and mine). For his part, he glanced over at me as I lined up the photo and then turned back to the birds. Clearly, they are more interesting to watch than a lone photographer!
Post processing started with a brilliant cold filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, contrast, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
Lovely warm light! I am looking at the guy and it feels like he was somehow transferred here from a skiing resort, and now he cannot understand where has all the snow gone and where is he:)
His huge jacket gives me an idea of the temperature. He is perfect, but the birds too were cooperating for more interest. I love all the ways the photo brings your eye down to the center scene--stairs, benches, balconies.
But always better that the subject doesn't mind being photographed, right? Especially if he wears a yellow jacket that adds a nice brightness to an otherwise orange/brown leaf scene.
