Contemplation

I stopped by India Point Park at lunch today. The temperature was in the high twenties and there was still a fair amount of wind, so I wasn't expecting too many people to be out and about. This gentleman rode up while I was getting my camera ready, and he stopped in this spot just staring out at the river for a good fifteen minutes before finally riding off. He glanced back at me once when I started to photograph, but that was it. Normally, I'd approach my subject afterwards to talk a bit about what I found interesting about the scene and to explain the 365 project to them. There was something about this rider, though, that gave me the distinct feeling that he didn't want to be disturbed. It's nothing I can put my finger on, but the vibe I got was that it would simply be wrong to interrupt his thoughts as he stared out over the water.

Post processing started with a brilliant warm filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-vJr6Zrb/0/XL/2013%2011%2025_0012%20copy-XL.jpg
This is very beautiful. The subject is reinforcing that by not being able to take his eyes off it. We have captured a lot of people from the back, and I don't feel an obligation to tell them as it's so anonymous.

@cejaanderson Oh, I don't normally approach them out of a feeling of obligation. Rather, if I found them to be an interesting subject, I'm interested in hearing their story. Talking to folks you've photographed can be fascinating.
