Pawtucket & Central Falls Railroad Station

Pawtucket, Rhode Island
This once beautiful railroad station, long since abandoned, straddles the tracks on the Pawtucket and Central Falls city line. The station was built by the New Haven, New York, and Hartford Railroad in 1915 when rail was the undisputed king of transportation. At its peak in 1923, 47 trains bound for Providence stopped at this station, and an equal number bound for Boston likewise picked up passengers here. In this photo, you can still see the remains of the concrete slabs that served as the platform beds lining the tracks. Stairs descended from the station onto the platforms, and you can see the boarded up exits on the main building where passengers would descend to the tracks. Two stairs also led up from the platforms to Barton Street where this photo was taken. Those stairs, which were used from 1960 when the building permanently closed until 1981 when this rail stop was officially retired, have also been removed. The station has been submitted to the National Registry of Historical Places, however it has yet to be approved due to concerns over its structural integrity.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
