Stumped

I wanted to do a very shallow Depth-of-Field composition today and I remembered that this stump sat atop a large glacial boulder on Olney Pond in Lincoln Woods State Park. Armed with my 50mm set to f/1.2, I composed this scene. It worked better in b&w than I expected, although now that I have it up on the computer, it looks like f/1.2 was much too wide for the depth of the stump to be fully in proper focus.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
@taffy Thanks, Taffy! The background did come out as I envisioned it.
@cejaanderson Thanks, Jane!
@flauschigerkeks Thanks, Nina. I agree, it is sad. That must have been a beautiful tree while it was alive.
