Depot Square

Depot Square

Woonsocket, Rhode Island

I was driving around Woonsocket this afternoon, looking for an interesting relatively old section to highlight in today's photo. I settled on this section of Depot Square, with the Railroad Station on the left and the Family Services building coming to a point on the right. The station is now used by the Providence & Worcester Railroad, and is very popular with the kids around Christmas when the Polar Express makes several visits. I really liked the lighting when I arrived, and I decided to photograph it with a higher ISO to introduce some old style grain. The only anachronistic issues are the modern style bus and the modern SUV in the middle of the scene.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter were added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-thn9QLp/0/XL/2014%2010%2005_0019%20copy-XL.jpg
Superb process. I like the dark (blue ?) sky

An amazing capture Ron and the Polar Express?! By that do you mean the train like from the movie? I think I may just have to pay a visit to Rhode Island to just come and see that, it'd be like reliving a moment from my childhood! :D

@lilminimonka Yes indeed, Brianna! Here's my photo from 2012, and the description beneath it tells you about the attraction. I'm trying to find a location this year where I can photograph the train itself since it's decorated to look like the one in the book. http://365project.org/kannafoot/365/2012-12-16
