A Wet Bike Ride
11 October 2014 -- 284/365
Providence, Rhode Island
It was raining steadily all morning and into the afternoon, so I thought it would be a perfect setting for some street photography. Inclement weather is ideal for photographing people going about their business under less than ideal conditions. This section of Providence is home to three universities: Brown, Rhode Island School of Design, and Johnson & Wales. Many of the students use bikes for transportation since parking on the East Side of Providence is downright horrendous. Rainy days certainly don't stop them, and here you see a student at one of the local colleges coming down the steep Thomas Street hill in front of Cafe Choklad. The reflections in the street tell you just how wet his ride must have been.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
