twirl how to

I was interested to try the twirl tutorial on http://www.slrlounge.com/twirls-hot-new-photoshop-trend/ discussed on http://365project.org/discuss/general/26093/twirling

top right image #3:
I wanted to emphasise the green lines on the lower right so I adjusted the blend options:
In PS - double click the top layer and in the middle see "Blend If' on the grey channel I moved the makers to 63 and 255. You can see it has the effect of making dark areas of the top layer invisible.

It's a fun effect. I don't have photo shop so I won't be able to try it out but they are certainly fun to look at!
