@northy here is the mfd scan of the same fabric flowers. (ick!) The lamp is clearly very different.
Major panic now that the scanography technique is not available to everyone - do you think I should add a second technique option for people without a scanner?
i am guessing you could also use similar technique putting objects on a sheet of glass or a glass coffee table and photographing it from below, I will try it and see!
@deborah63 his one needed a lot of work to even get an image - this Brother fax machine & printer is clearly a long way behind the Canoscan the others were done with.
well - it's inevitably going to happen that a technique isn't available to everyone... i think it's ok... looks like a fun thing to try and i'll be interested to see what sorts of results everyone gets :)
@kali66 I did that once before I had a scanner available, with a picture frame! It'll work, just make sure the camera is as square as possible. And the composition shouldn't be too hard (with a scanner you have to compose mirror image, with this you won't).

I did feel quite 'unco' trying to imagine the composition upside down, exactly as you describe.
