The Taiwanese "Korean Salad"

I was recently singing the praises of Costco to a friend of mine who is working on an ad campaign for Costco here in Taiwan. Mainly talking about their customer service, especially their return policy. And my negative experiences dealing with returning something at Taiwanese businesses.

While there I saw something that I've been trying to get a picture of for a long time...the Korean Salad. The Korean Salad was first told to me by a coworker who had lived in Korea. He said that when Koreans go to Costco, they don't buy any of the prepared food there, they just get a plate and put all the condiments on it, mix it up, and eat that. Yes it's 100% free, but i think if you wanted me to eat a "salad" of relish, chopped onions, mustard and ketchup, you'd have to pay me.

Here in Taiwan while people do eat this Korean salad, it is not the focus of the meal. usually when people get the hot dog, they will mix up the Korean salad and put it on the hot dog. but then when the hot dog is gone, they will just eat the rest of the "salad" with a fork.

Above is the first time I saw people eating just the "salad" however they added one thing to it to make it seem less....repulsive. They got the precooked chicken and tore it up into tiny pieces and put that into the "salad" and mixed it up and ate it. In a way I was a bit impressed. In Taiwan it's very common for people to get the chicken and just share it with their friends. I even did it once, and afterwards i didn't want to eat chicken again for a month. But this was the first time I saw people do something unique with the chicken.

Kudos to them for inventing the Taiwanese Korean Salad!
