Taipei, Cat City by taiwandaily

Taipei, Cat City

Well this is farewell my friends, this is my last post. You may not have noticed, but starting a few months ago I was really limping towards the finish line. What started out as a blog to give me a break from my Chinese studies, and to force me to take some time to actually go out and about, has two years later become a burden. As my life transitions to spending time on various projects, I just don't have the time or energy to keep this up. I must also admit that I have run out of aspects of life in Taiwan to photograph and talk about.

This also explains why this last week in particular has been some pretty bad photos, just trying to find anything that would work to show something that would let me talk about the topic I wanted. A lot of them meant that I had to give up waiting for that perfect picture, but oh well.

Going forward I'd like to say that I might post things on here from time to time, but who knows if that will be true. At this time last year I tried just having photos only with a line or two about them, but that didn't last long, as i felt compelled to go back to writing a lot, and some things just need longer explanations. And while things do come up and I learn more things here all the time, I really don't see there being enough for a whole year again.

There is one picture I am disappointed that I never got. I talked about betel nut twice last week, and the picture I always wanted was of the teeth of somebody who chews betel nut. It rots their teeth and also stains their whole mouth dark red. It's quite unnerving and would have made a great picture.

So it's with a heavy heart that i say goodbye. It will be hard, as just today I saw an add for a christmas performance in Taipei from DJ Jazzy Jeff, and after the initial shock wore off, I enjoyed telling my friend that there was a time when this guy she has never heard of was more popular than Will Smith. This one sight got me thinking about doing a whole third year, but then logic set in.

Thanks as always to all my friends who have looked up information, gone with me, interpreted, and done the myriad of other things necessary to make these last two years possible. And of course my apologies for making them listen to and do things that they have absolutely no interest in.

For the last picture, I've heard that cats are all the rage on the internet, so a cat picture seems suitable for my last post. There are a lot of stray cats and outdoor cats around the city, and a lot of them like to spend their free time relaxing on the scooter seats. If you are a cat fanatic than Taipei is definitely the city for you, as every where you go you are guaranteed to see cats hanging out on scooters.

Take care everybody.
Good farewell shot. I'll still follow you in case you decide to add a picture here and there.

Best of luck to you in 2014 and beyond. I have enjoyed the daily lesson as it has helped me understand the a great many topics from the Taiwanese perspective and has helped me at work relate to my co-workers in Hsinchu.
