This is a terrible shot. My focus is off, the perspective is boring, the noise level is too high, my depth of field is too narrow and I didn't even get all of the damselfly into the frame! XD
But I still want to add this shot to my album because I may not see another damselfly with brunch in his mouth. 8D
yes, it's terrible! my goodness are you sure you took this yourself? hehehe! you are in this so deep, my friend, you can't get out just like that. this is awesome!!!!!
Livia don't beat yourself up so much, your thoughts simply reflect the sky high standards you have and the amazing results that they drive you to achieve. This has lovely colours and details and great clarity....it is definitely NOT a terrible shot........imho anyway :)
It has awesome colors! Your terrible shot, as you call it, is still better than any insect/bug/spider shot I've ever gotten!! Don't be so hard on yourself!
I beg to differ with you. It sure looks awesome on my computer screen. Love the colors, the whole scene....Actually one of my favorites of your shots. Another fav, gal!
Being a tad too hard on yourself here but I know better than to argue with you, so you beat yourself up and we'll just enjoy the shot;0) Have a good weekend honey
You sound so much like me ... lol. This is great!! Truly beautiful. What is wonderful about this is the damselfly's body. The colors are beautiful and the clarity is awesome. Take another look! :)
Not being sarcastic in any way - cos I wouldn't be at all surprised - has it made the PP yet! This is gorgeous and well executed - if you got her all in, the brunch would be much less a feature of the shot!
Are you kidding? I like the fact that what's in focus is what's most important in the shot- damsel fly and food. I don't mind that he's not fully in the frame. I think that actually plays in your favor. The body line draws you into the picture. That the other things around him are not in perfect focus actually makes him stand out from the background. Don't be so hard on yourself!! It's a good, no excellent shot!
I'm going to have to agree with everyone else, you're nuts ;) This is a pretty super fantastic shot - loving it! Hope you don't lose respect for me as I must fav it :)
haha...hear myself in you, but it's true in my case :P This is a wonderful shot..great colours, great dof, wonderful focus and room for the damsel to go when it's done eating!
I feel like you Livi but really we have to be a bit less critical of ourselves, we aren't professional photographers for National Geographic mag, we do the next we can, hopefully really have fun and get a few good shots along the way! This btw is a good shot!!
All your so-called 'faults' can be forgiven because you captured this beautiful damselfly in the midst of her meal. And such great colours and detail, as usual. Fav. for me, as well.
A great, big, colorful and grateful "THANK YOU!" to everyone! You're too kind! I do thank you all for your encouraging words. I know I have a lot to improve on, and I am always grateful for your support. Thank you very, very much.
There you go. Another lesson in nature for me. I'd never even heard of this creature before seeing this photo. I'm always amazed at how hairy nature is and you've captured that along with brunch.
But the detail on its eyes is amazing, and what a catch with the food in its mouth. May I ask what you usually set your iso at for these kinds of shots? You said it was a bit noisy and I seem to have that problem with my macros.
@pammerritt For this shot, I probably set it at 1200. Usually I keep it at 800. I shoot in the early morning and usually in the shade, so I need it to be at least 800. I rely on natural light and don't use flash, but that's an option for you if you want to take good macro shots without cranking up the ISO. 8)
@myautofocuslife Thank you for responding. I don't usually crank the iso up that far outside even in the shade. I will try to up it some to see if it helps. I rarely use flash. I really appreciate the info! Thanks:)
