Shield bugs are also called stink bugs, but to me they look more like armored bugs. I like the orange accents on this one.
They are called stink bugs because, as a defensive measure, they are able to eject a foul smell from glands in their thorax. According to the wiki, this does not deter people from eating them. They are considered a delicacy in Laos and Mexico.
The things I learn when I google for information on my macro subjects! 8D
They're like something out of the film "Ants". They'd be a meany in a film. My friend in Pittsburgh often talks about stink bugs - don't think we get them in the UK (thankfully)
He really does look like he wears a coat of armor and at first I thought the 2 little red-orange dots were ladybugs! Fabulous details!! Very interesting bug.
I think you live in a little paradise, with palms and interesting insects and sun and warmth . Awesome close up of those interesting bug. I use Wikipedia to get the information .
Out of all the bugs i think i dislike this one the most! for some reason they like to come into the RV and its like they just appear out of nowhere! they really do stink bad and i have been told that if you kill one in your house..they attract them even more because of the smell! When i find them now i gently pick them up with a tissue in order to not harm them and toss them out the front door!! Alot of them around here this year! Very Clear and Focused shot! i like the colors also! :P
OMG! I jumped when I opened this! Freak! That is scary to me and I shoot these guys alot...well ...some. He looks meaty and with big shoulders! And what a cool design on his back. Great pic of him! Fav!
A great, big, well armored, battle-ready and strong "THANK YOU!" to all! Thank you for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. I am grateful for your constant support and encouragement.
Great capture & info ...fancy eating something withat that hard looking shell that smell...eeww...when my daughter and l were in Thailand a few years ago we ate grasshoppers...quite tasty but it was hard to get past the fact they were grasshoppers though...lol!!
Hmm~, tasty...not!! I haven't been overly adventurous with what I eat; weirdest meat I've had is frog, when I was in Beijing. Great shot and clarity, Livia!!!
Oh YUCKO...we have a different form of Stinkbug in the US that purportedly we can thank China for - came over in containers a while back. They could not be edible by any nation. I'm very sure of it. This one however has beauty to it. Hopefully is not as pesky as ours. :-)
Nice shot!
thanks, teacher.
this bug looks unbreakable.
Again, thank you very much.
