Do I know what I am shooting? Most of the time? No, actually, no!
Take this guy. His body was about 2mm. Too tiny. So I really didn't see him. All I saw were these two feeler-like things swinging and twitching in the wind. I thought, WTF, antennae that are attached to nothing!? So I moved closer.
The twitching became frantic. And it moved back. I thought, WTF, it's alive!? So I moved closer.
It moved back some more. By now, staring furiously, I could make out a tiny body. But it's nothing like I've ever seen. WTF is it!? So I moved closer, snapping quick shots, afraid I'd lose it.
It moved back even faster. Oh wait, now, I could make out the fact that those two feeler-like things were not his antennae. They were his tail! WTF, what kind of thing has a tail like that!? So I moved closer, still snapping, praying that I'd get at least one good shot.
It decided it'd had enough of me. It flew away! Or jumped. Or teleported. I really don't know. It was just the weirdest bug I have ever seen.
I think it's a treehopper or planthopper of some kind. Even now, as I look at it, magnified by my macro lens, I still can't believe something like this exists.
@myautofocuslife Oh. Sorry. Then South Asia has a big share of weird bugs too! Your bug looks a bit like a North American praying mantis crossed with a grasshopper.
wow this is incredible......Incredible that you got this detailed shot and incredible that amazing insects like this exist! Fave for sure and wonderfu commentary! @bobfoto@robv maybe able to help us all know who this little guy is. :-)
What a capture! He looks "prehistoric" to me ... maybe a survivor from a melted glacier! lol Wonderful detail ...a little creepy and "geeky" looking. Must have been awesome to see this through the lens. Tell me, Livia. While taking these photos has any of them ever jumped ON you? I'd be yelping and jumping all over the place ... hitting and slapping my body. And looking absolutely crazy! You're amazing. :)
You're so brave to keep getting closer without knowing what it was! Fabulous result though, he looks very strange indeed, kind of like a grasshopper mixed with a scorpion...eek!
@robv Thank you for identifying it! Yes, I think it's the same one. I'm really happy to see that I'm not the only one who's seen this bizarre-looking critter. It's like, seeing a UFO, and I don't want to be the only weirdo who has. 8D
@karenann Haha, no, I haven't had a planthopper or bug jump on me. But, in the past 2-3 weeks, I've had jumping spiders jump on me. XD They are just being super curious. Some run the instant they see my lens getting closer, others are braver and prefer to jump onto it. They're so tiny, all I do is blow at it and it will jump off my lens again. One time, a little guy let out a dragline and he was dangling from my lens on that single strand of web, so I swung my arm and it finally jumped off. 8D I don't mind jumping spiders. They're tiny and cute. But if a web-spinning spider got on me, I'd scream and flail. That's why I don't go near web-spinning spiders. Too scary. 8(
omg Livia i shot one of these today too! And i was like...What the heck is this! So white and comming out of a white flower i was amazed! i thought it was a spider but yours is a much clearer shot..Great jpb!!
Love your adventure story with this new critter! I love finding a new one! Heart starts racing! Big smile on face! He has those wide leafhopper like legs, but those tail things! Wow. And they DO seem to teleport, don't they! Fav
I see, so this is a 'bum shot'. I'm sure God is proud of all his creations and we are glad that you are finding so many and showcasing them here and so by extension God is proud of you :)
Teleported! I'm laughing my ass off over here. So damn funny. Needed that. Thanks. Amazing capture. Incredible creature. Would love to know for sure what it is. Also makes you wonder what other things in this world are out there that we have no record of. Fav
Awesome shot- boy this little plant hopper looks almost prehistoric or like something the makers of Transformers would have come up with- Transformer Bugs! Excellent shot!
A great, big, surprising and never-before-seen "ARIGATOU GOZAIMASU!" to everyone! Thank you for stopping by and sharing in my discovery of this really bizarre-looking planthopper! I will always remember the experience. I'm really glad I enjoy taking macro shots because I'm seeing so many things for the first time. Nature is wonderful.
Stunning shot and an amazing looking critter. You are just so clever. Keep it up and I too am glad you love your Macro lens : ) So a big thank you from me.
Hansa down, the most bizarre thing I've seen. Coulda been a super hero or perhaps it came from a nuclear power plant? How long did you have with 'it'? I wonder if he stinks? I'm gonna' guess he does. Are you gonna give him a name? Everybody needs a name. I think 'stinky' would be lovely. Nice capture and GREAT text. I like how you call it...
Fabulous capture Livia - you must have eyes like a hawk! This tiny guy is just awesome - especially the 2 tails - I wonder if he's impersonating another bug that tastes really bad!
Catching up here :) that bug is so small and it looks weird. What I enjoyed more though (seen that I ma not a beetles bugs and butterflies girl:) is your commentary Hilarious! It's like I was in your very crazy head :)))))
Your story was brilliant.
this is SO werid looking! never seen one before but you sure captured it well!!! awesome shot and find!
Love the story to go with it.
Bizarre. let us know when/if you find out what it is.
Again, thank you very much! 75 shots to go!
