@dulciknit - Unfortunately there is a lot of noise in this. I had to use my G12 at high ISO as I was not allowed to use flash or lights. So the quality is not as good as I wanted. Next time I might try some other tricks to get the light levels up. A great session. Enjoyed that one.
I'd rather see that on a canvas than a body but I know they are all the rage. I appreciate her attention to detail and the talent it takes to draw them.
@netkonnexion Yes, I spotted the noise and wonderd about the ISO so had a shufti at the exif data. Frustrating. What would you do next time? Try using a reflector on the available light?
@dulciknit - I will be taking a better lens/camera combo. That will help. Also some sort of reflector will also help. The G12 is a very small lens and not good for definition work so in poor light it will get noisy. I will use my 5D and a wider aperture on the wonderful 24-70 Mk II L (2.8) - just a stunning lens. That will do the trick at F2.8.
I'd taken using a bigger camera and fast lens as a given (!)
Must rent that lens some time and see what it can do.. It seems to be umiversally very highly rated. Bit dubious about the lack of IS, though..
@dulciknit - It is a great lens, but as you say, a great expense too. Totally worth it. The main thing is that it is such a fast lens, and very flexible as well as super-sharp you simply do not need an IS system. I have done hand held shots in the most difficult light conditions and pulled it off.
Oooooh, well, in that case I think I shall definitely rent it to try. The 24-105 has its good points but it is rather limiting in low light conditions.
@dulciknit - Yes, the low light problems on the 24-105 are definitely its limiting factor. BUT, it is also not as sharp as the 24-70 f2.8. You will love it.
B. hell, no pressure, then! ;-)
Sorry, had a dither (surely not!) and deleted my previous comment: "Only if I take any I think're worth sharing :-) " - or something like that. :-D
I use Lenses For Hire, UK. Very good service. Thank you, I shall. We're going to Kew steam museum on Saturday - a good place for trying equipment out in low light and fun too.
I have used them too. There is a similar independent svc locally which I use most. Prices compare tho'.
I keep meaning to go to that museum and check the sights out. Been past it many times. Seen your pics too. This Saturday I am doing an event so working.
Yes, do go to Kew, it's a great place - all that beautiful, Victorian engineering! - but quite challenging photographically. None of the engines is in steam this weekend (except for the little train ouside) and it's at its best when they are, of course.
Interesting candid. Love the artist's hair.
