My poor little bird feeder fell victim to a late night raid. We don't usually get bears this early in the season, but I should have listened to my "gut" the other night when I thought about bringing it inside. I'm sure the squirrel didn't mind about the seeds, but my shepherd's hook is still somewhat crooked after I straightened it out!
Yes Roe Jan- We do not get bears on a regular basis in our part of the community because we're on a mountain top and the stream with the fish is down below, but every once in a while in the summer we get them. So, I usually put mine out for the day and bring it in at dusk starting in June. This is the first time I've had a bear come through so early in the Spring. But if I'd listened to my gut feelings that night, I would have lost out on this humorous picture.
Yes Rick they certainly were and no sign of them since- which is a good thing!
Thanks Barbara- yes bears love seeds. It's not the first time this has happened to a bird feeder. In fact last summer, it was just about dusk as I was going to get the bird feeder and there was a 300 pounder that had just started to pull the feeder down. Crazy me throws open the sliding and grabs the lid to the recycling bin, hurls it at the bear and yells, "Hey you silly bear, that's for the birds!" Thankfully, he decided to flee rather than fight me on the issue!
