One of my favorite memories as a child is polishing my mother's silver. I loved taking those tarnished utensils, magically wiping the lavendar colored cream over the dark grey spots and watching them shrink and disappear as I rubbed them away. Polishing the silver also meant something special was about to happen; a holiday, a celebration, a milestone. When mom asked me to polish the silver, I knew I had something to look forward to. I still love to polish silver, but in a more nostalgic sense. The pieces I have are little silver treasures and reminders of special things or people in my life. (From left to right: a yard sale find that had a beautiful menorah etched in it; my baby spoon with my initials; and two ladles my grandmother gave me when I got married. Not quite in the picture- my mother's silver salt and pepper shakers)
@digitalrn@bkbinthecity@alia_801@tammylarson Thank you Rick, bkb, Alia and Tammy! I'm glad you all liked the picture and story- I really liked setting up and taking this shot because I had to polish the silver to do it!
@sanera Thanks Samantha- for all your comments! I do treasure these things both for their beauty, but more importantly the connections I feel to special people becasue of them. I really appreciate all your comments today!
Really nice shot - and I love to hear the story behind items that we treasure. Some times when I buy something 2nd hand I ask the person if there is a story behind this item.
@friendie Thanks Carole. It would have been interesting to find out the story behind the spoon. I wonder what it was used for and when. It appears to me to be one that was used on a festival day, but who knows?
