The cross is probably one of the most maligned symbols in all the world. Some have used it as a weapon. Some wear it as a decoration but have no idea what it means. Some equate it with a list of do's and don'ts and judge it as oppressive. Others embrace its forgiveness, yet continue merrily on their way barely acknowledging what it cost to obtain it. Some see it as a political entity; an enemy to subdue and obliterate. Others find it a complete enigma. And still others cling to it like a lifeline. The Man who died on it called it a scandal, a stumbling block, an offense, and yet He spent His final hours on earth carrying it to the place where He would be crucified. Though some hate it and what it stands for, there are countless others, who even now give up their earthly lives because they believe in the One who died on it. The cross is the strongest symbol I can think of and perhaps the most controversial. I noticed this one last week when I pulled into the driveway one day. It was reflected on to the house from the glass of the outdoor light. I must have stared at it for a good ten minutes, marveling that I had never noticed it before, and then thinking about the many different ways people react to it and how I would put those thoughts into words. I feel I have hardly begun to delve into the subject, but perhaps it is better to let my thoughts be and allow the cross to speak for itself.
wow, Ann. You put it into words perfectly. This is incredible! I'd love to pull into my driveway to see this each day.
What does the cross mean to me? It means a realization that He loves me....so, so much. That the least I can do is give my life for His word because with that love He gave his. And that the gift I received because of this cross is the meaning of life. I don't have to search anymore.
Fascinating capture - light is amazing isn't it! And so is the cross.
Personal perspectives can be so different but gratitude and a sense of loving kindness without measure make me smile and keep living!
this is so awesome! I love your description; beautifully written. The cross is a place where we can lay down all our anxiety, faults and hurts. It is also a place of restoration. BEAUTIFUL!
@sarah19@annaruth@jmj Thank you Sarah, Anna and Jennifer for your beautiful comments. It never ceases to amaze me at how differently the cross effects each one of us, and yet there is a unity within all those different experiences. Thank you for all your lovely additions to my thoughts today.
@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen- not much editing- just a little cropping. The frame is Picnik's mirror frame reduced in size and the tint changed to to a chestnut hue with a border added on the outside and the inner color of the border changed to a dark teal.
Oh yes Ann, it's a remarkable thing, something so degrading and humiliating, yet it has the ability to stir up such a variety of emotions. I like your words, and I think it is something that each of us must consider on a personal level, what it means to us.
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @digitalrn Thank you Rick. What you say is very true- the cross is universal, but also very personal and stirs up a wide range of emotions. @roejan Thank you Roe Jan.
