Happy Candles

We're off to take part in an outreach our church does every year called "Light in the Darkness" today. The town of Milford turns into a safe zone for kids and since we're right on the corner of Main Street, we put up a big bouncy house, give out popcorn, water and hot dogs, have games and crafts for the kids, enjoy all the crazy costumes and play an assortment of live music. Last year we gave out over a thousand hotdogs! This year promises to be even bigger, so it's going to be brisk but exciting! I'll be back in the swing of things over the next few days! Thanks so much for your comments, well wishes, and patience everyone. I treasure my 365 family more than you'll ever know!
really ccoooooooooolllllll creation - love the action!!!!

A perfect safe and fun way to spend Halloween! I love the events your church has planned! My 2 grandgirls are doing something similar. Your candles express such warmth and beauty...lovely shot!

Love the rich glow of this picture. Your project sounds amazing. 1000 hot dogs clearly shows you are filling a need (and many stomachs!)

That is such a neat idea to have something like that for the kids, and safer too. Nice community event.

@dmariewms Thank you Marie! And thank you again for all your faithful comments!
@cimes1 Thank you Carole! I hope your grandchildren had a great time being part of their event.
@bruni Thank you Bruni! The town of Milford is still fairly safe for trick or treating- and because the town proper is a traditional one with blocks of houses and such, it's still a great place for kids. But the business community realized it was also a great time to open their doors and make it fun for everyone to go up and down the main street too- so it's a lot of fun. Even the grown-ups dress up!
@mrssmith Thank you Carla! You're special to me!
@annaruth Thank you Anna!

@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen!
@allie912 Thank you Allie! Yes, that hot dog line is sometimes a block long! But people in the town love it.
@digitalrn Thank you Rick. So many people in our congregation recongnize that our location is very special and God does not want us to just sit there looking pretty! Milford is a very "artistic" town. All kinds of festivals are held throughout the year and now the outreach committee wants to take advantage of a few more. It will be exciting as we look for creative ways to be a part of that.
@bk12racing Thank you Mike!
@sanera Thank you Samantha! It is really fun. There is a steady flow of activity from beginning to end. This year they're also including an outdoor movie.
@daveanajao Thank you Dave- you are really so kind! I guess, yes, I am overall a happy person- but not because of anything I do or say, or even the "things" that I have in life. And I don't mean to sound trite or cliche when I say this but I think I am happy because of my faith. Even when I am going through my worst times- and believe me I have them!- if I open my Bible and read about Jesus and how He lived, I learn about ways to deal with what I'm experiencing and feeling. I don't want to get preachy here, but what you sense in me really has to do with my relationship with Jesus, not religion. But I thank you so much for your words- I am going through a time in my life where I am wondering what I should be doing and if I'm doing any good. So they were very powerful and meaningful. Thank you.

@daveanajao Thank you sooooo much for the fav!
@alia_801 Thanks Alia! This is one of those times when I get frustrated with my little p/s. On my old SLR I could hold the shutter open indefinitely and make all kinds of designs with the light, but this camera only allows me to hold the shutter open for a certain amount of time and then it closes automatically. But even though it's not the best shot, it worked for the feel of the holiday. So, I posted it. I was happy to see how many enjoyed it!

This would make a good Christmas card. I think it's great that your church is celebrating light rather than the darkness usually seen on Hallowe'en.

@jmj Thanks Jennifer! Yes- it's quite a sight. People with all kinds of costumes come, but there is a lot of joy from those who serve them. The darkness cannot overcome the light- as you well know!

@espyetta Thanks MaryBetth!
@flydragon Thanks Flydragon!
Thank you both- I wish I could get my camera to keep the shutter open longer, but since it is a point and shoot it will only allow me one option and it's not enough to do more than just a jiggle. But I did like the way this one came out.
